How can you get a copy of this outstanding book?

OK, I can hear you first asking, "$45 for a chess book?!?!"

Well, you can view that in several ways, but I think the simplest is this:
How much would you pay for a two-hour private chess lesson?

How much would you pay for an 11-week session of 90-minute-long chess classes?

Well, The Opening 8 contains much more material than would be covered during
5, two-hour lessons (or a typical 11-week session of classes)
-- and, you can proceed at your own pace, with a permanent reference.
(So, in fact, price should not be a problem for this 359-page text.)

Who is Steve Cohen?   What can he teach about chess?

Steve Cohen is the founder and president of the UPSCL, a non-profit scholastic chess league serving the San Mateo (California) Peninsula Scholastic Chess Community since 1995 (and its sole teacher). Over the course of his life, Steve had been searching for, and has developed, a unique system of approach to chess that makes chess as easy as possible. This "system" that Steve has created is presented as the unique chess curriculum of the UPSCL, which has been enjoyed by hundreds of children ranging in age from pre-K through 9th grade. The Opening 8 contains full coverage of the curriculum to be covered in a Level-I course (if we had about 30-40 weeks for the course, which is typically 8-11 weeks long). [Also, during 1999-2001, Steve presented a popular end-game lecture series at the Internet Chess Club.]

UPSCL students include several California State Champions, one student who had a perfect score (and earned first, on tie-breaks) in his division at SuperNationals 2001, another has taken or shared 1st place at the 2000 and 2001 North American Opens (in Amateur and U2200 sections) -- the winnings from which more than paid for all the lessons he'd received [and, as a 9th-grader, came in 2nd in the 2002 State Championships in the K-12th division behind only 12th-grader IM Vinay Bhat (one-time record-holder of the youngest-ever age to reach the level of master chess-player in the U.S.)].

Incidentally, the first edition of The Opening 8 sold out in its first year!

The second edition conatins more information; more, helpful diagrams; and, is printed in a bigger, easier-to-read font size [one of the reasons for expansion from 89-page first edition to 359-page second edition]!

Thus, Steve has successfully taught chess to many people; and now, you can learn this system to make chess easy for you!

Why are most other chess books priced less?

Of course quantity is a big factor (we self-publish on a very small scale).

Then again, with most chess books, you really get what you pay for!
(so, I want you to realize that you're really getting a good quality book!!!)
[After all, Steve could have just sent first edition to copier and printed more copies; but, instead preferred to spend what took 3 years to create and produce this second edition for you -- because Steve is a perfectionist who cares about quality and your learning! Steve wants you to have the best possible product -- and now you can!]
